New Swim Family Survival Guide
Welcome to the Forest Lake Swim Team! Listed below are “next steps” and tips for families new to the swim team regarding what to expect from this
fun and rewarding experience.
First Steps
- Complete the registration form and return it to the front desk or email it to Carol Ballard (cballard@flcc.us).
- If the registration form is returned by the due date (typically mid-May) then your child will receive a free Gators’ t-shirt.
- Registrations returned after the due date, regardless of reason, will not receive a t-shirt due to ordering deadlines.
- Introduce yourself to Coach Bagley. He will ask your child to swim a lap or two (depending on ability) to assess swimming ability.
- Familiarize yourself with the practice schedules; see the Practice & Clinic Schedule tab.
- Familiarize yourself with the mock meet and regular meet schedules; see the Meet Schedule & Info tab.
Swim Gear
- Practice gear required:
- Dark swim goggles to help with the sun
- Swim caps (either FLCC or generic) for all girls and boys with longer hair
- Practice racing suit (no baggy trunks for boys)
- Swim team gear required for meets, available through The Varsity Shop:
- Team suit
- FLCC swim team cap (if past order deadline, Jen Schrader may have some available for purchase)
- Additional team swim apparel (optional)
Meet Expectations
- Check out the Swim Meet Survival Guide tab for an overview of what to pack for the swim meet.
- A parent is required to volunteer at most of our home swim meets, sign-up under the Volunteer Schedule tab.
- Typically our parents wear blue to the meets to support the Gators.
- Buffet dinner is provided for all swimmers at the swim meet conclusion for home and away swim meets (no charge for swimmers).
- Clubhouse attire required.
- Each swimmer MUST receive a food ticket from the coaches to avoid any food charges.
- Parents/siblings/guests are welcome to enjoy a dinner buffet; reservations recommended. Charges are reciprocated at all other clubs.
Et Cetera…
- Coach Bagley runs stroke clinics throughout the summer season for an additional fee. Information is typically posted in June regarding dates and
fees.
- Check out the swim bulletin in the youth room of the pool house on a regular basis for additional information.
- All swimmers participate in the Gator Buddy program as the “buddy” or recipient. The program is designed to be a support for new and younger
swimmers.
- Have a young swimmer who isn’t quite ready for swim team? Check out our “Learn To Swim” tab on the website.
- Don’t be late to practice!
